Is a student car loan right for you?

Perhaps the need to have your own car is already overwhelming – some students in your college are already getting behind the wheel faster and more conveniently, thanks to rich parents who spoil their kids. But it is a known fact that a student will sooner or later need some kind of transportation to keep up with the pace; otherwise, walking to the nearest library would leave you way behind the others in your study group. Plus how do you think you’ll get a date without some wheels? That is exactly the reason why student car loans exist: financial institutions have recognized the need and have addressed this need to assist students. Back in the day when I was at college a local car dealer even had a booth set up in the main lobby in one of the buildings. College students are easy targets for credit card companies and car loan companies as well. On most occasions students have a nice “unblemished” credit report. Easy approval is possible if you are prepared for the car loan application in terms of requirements. Gather all the necessary documents to facilitate your application faster.

Before applying for a student car loan, you should first determine how much you can afford to pay for your loan each month. Apart from this expense, other costs such as gasoline, car insurance, and car maintenance should also be considered. Failing to include the accompanying costs of owning a car could get you in a financial dilemma. Remember a car is just a means of transportation. Do not go “Fancy”. I always liked this line, “Don’t drive an expensive car you can’t afford to impress people you don’t even like!” It’s tempting when you are young to want to impress the “chicks” but save the dream car when you are financially sound and able to pay cash. Do not listen to car salesman who say you can afford this or that. They want you to spend a lot so they can earn a big commission.

Remember that the demands of being in college can sometimes be stressful; avoid getting in trouble with the auto loan company by simply sticking to your budget. A diligent buyer will always plot out his expenses and see if he can afford to buy prior to actually applying for a car loan. Your car company can help you compute for the total cost of expenses each month and the amount that is safe for you to use in paying for the car loan.
